Both Lakshmi and Saraswati are sometimes associated with the great god Vishnu. Both represent the "solar" or bright side of reality. But they can be viewed as symbolizing complementary positive values: Lakshmi is the spirit of prosperity and worldly well-being while Saraswati is the spirit of surpassing or transcending the world.
