~ madhubani painting: Goddess Kali (2) ~
Just as the goddess Durga can represent the combined fury or wrath (krodha) of the gods, the goddess Kali can represent the concentrated fury of Durga. She has an affinity for wildness and disorder, and is found in forests, on battlefields, or in cremation grounds. She is one of the few really formidible consorts of Shiva, and when she is shown with him (as here) she is clearly dominant -- a manifestation of intense energy.
